October 9th
I organise a village fundraising event where man and horse go head to head-entrants can run, bike or ride a 10k course, centred around Offas Dyke as it runs through this part of the world. Last year we had 45 in the field, including a disabled former army officer. We start at our village hall and end up at the local pub. Money raised, about £400, went last year to Help for Heroes and this year I was looking for a local regimental charity. We are right on the border here and in fact the course goes in and out of Wales.

There will be a 'Barn Dance' on October 9th at Freystrop village hall from 7pm till 12.30am. Preseli Pete & Bluestone Boys will be providing the entertainment for the evening, there will also be a disco, raffle and food included in the ticket price which is £10. A concert will be held at the Princess Royal Theatre Port Talbot on Friday 22nd October, in aid of 'Healing the Wounds' Golden Grove Appeal, doors open at 6.30 for 7.00pm start.
A variety of artists taking part include Neath Male Voice Choir, The Harmony Ladies Choir, Canola Instrumentalist Trio and The Valesong Trio of Singers. A raffle will also be held on the night, prizes include,
2 tickets for the Ospreys Heineken Cup
A 2008 signed painting of the Grand Slam
A Kercher Wet and dry vacuum cleaner
2 day passes for Ffos Las Racecourse
Family tickets for Folly Farm and other prizes.
Barclays Bank will also be supporting the event.
